Son of late Shri Roop Lal; born on 12th April, 1951 at village Kathog (Jawalamukhi), Distt. Kangra; Matric; married to Smt. Raj Kumari; two sons and three daughters; Agriculturist, Contractor and Social Worker.

        Inspired people of Jawalamukhi to work hard and to take up agriculture and horticulture scientifically. Remained Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Dhawala, 1978-88; Vice-President and President, Panchayat Samiti, Dehra during 1988-93 and 1993-97 respectively; Member, Zila Parishad, Kangra, 1997-98; President, B.J.P., Distt. Kangra; Presently Vice-President State B.J.P.

        Elected to State Legislative Assembly in 1998 as an Independent; re-elected to the Assembly in 2003 on Bhartiya Janata Party ticket.Remained Minister for Irrigation and Public Health from March 1998; dropped from the Council of Ministers in March, 2001; was reinducted in the Ministry on April 3, 2001; also remained Member, Public Accounts and Human Development Committee of the Assembly, 2003-07

        Elected again to the State Legislative Assembly for a third term in December 2007; appointed Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs on 09-01-2008.
