Daughter of Smt. Devendra Kumari (former Minister Madhya Pradesh Govt.) & Shri Madneshwar Saran Singh Deo (Retd. Chief Secretary, Madhya Pradesh); born on 23rd September, 1955 at New Delhi; BA, educated at MLB Girls College Bhopal; married to Late Shri R.K. Brijendra Singh on 19th April, 1979; one daughter; Agriculturist.
President’s Medal awardees for being a Girls Guide; Founder Member, NSUI, 1972; General Secretary, MLB Girls College, Bhopal, 1975-77; elected President, Bhopal University Students Union, 1978-79; arrested during an agitation in favour of Late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi in September, 1978.
Remained Regional Director, INTACH, 1990-91 and State Convener, INTACH, 1998; General Secretary, HPCC; Member, AICC; Secretary, AICC; and presently AICC Incharge Congress Committee Punjab and Chandigarh.
Elected to State Legislative Assembly in 1985; re-elected in 1993, 1998 & 2003 from Banikhet and in 2012 from Dalhousie Assembly segment. Before delimitation in 2007, Dalhousie Assembly constituency was known as Banikhet.
Remained Minister of State for Primary Education (Independent charge) from 18th October, 1995 to March, 1998; Education Minister (Cabinet rank) from 6th March, 2003 to 8th February, 2005; Panel of Chairman of HP Vidhan Sabha and Chairman, Public Undertakings & Rural Planning Committees, 2013-2017.
Re-elected to the thirteenth Vidhan Sabha (6th term) in December, 2017 and nominated as Chairman, Public Accounts Committee & Member, e-Governance-cum-General Purposes Committee.
Special Interest: Music, reading, wildlife & protection of environment.
Favorite Pastime & Recreation: Visiting wild Life sanctuaries & listening music.
Social & Cultural Activities: Chairman, Raj Kumar Brijendra Singh Educational Trust which is running a School at Chamba.
Sports: President, Raj Kumar Brijendra Singh Cricket Club (Regd.) Chamba. The Club Organizes Memorial Cricket Tournament since, 2006. Represented Madhya Pradesh in Volley ball & Bhopal University in Volley ball & Basket ball. Also remained Captain, Bhopal University Volley ball team.
Awards: Winner of Best Parliamentarian Awards for outstanding attendance in House Committees, 1994-95.
