Son of Shri Chhanga Ram; born at Bharmour, Distt. Chamba on September 16, 1944; Matric; married; two sons and two daughters; Agriculturist/Horticulturist and Govt. Servant.

        While in Service took active part in union activities; worked for the upliftment of the Scheduled Tribes; organized Mani Mahesh Yuvak Mandal, Bharmour; remained President, Bhartiya Janata Party, Chamba, 1993-97.

        Elected to the State Legislative Assembly in 1990 and 1998 on BJP ticket.

        Remained Chairman, Committee on Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, 1999-2000; Committee on Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and Women Welfare, 2000-2001; and Welfare Committee, 2001-2002. Also remained Members of various other House Committees.

        Elected to the Legislative Assembly for a third term in December, 2007; unanimously elected to the office of Speaker on January 11, 2008.
