  • Son of Late Shri Gayan Singh Negi (Ex MLA, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha); born on 2nd February,1957 at Kalpa, Distt. Kinnaur; BA, LLB., educated at DAV College, Chandigarh and Punjab University, Chandigarh; married to Smt. Susheela Negi on 1st July, 1982; one son and one daughter; Advocate and Horticulturist.

    Remained Founder President, Distt. Apple and Vegetable Growers Association, Kinnaur, 1980-1995; President: Distt. Bar Association, Kinnaur, 1980-1995, (ii) Distt. Youth Congress Committee, Kinnaur, 1980-95, (iii) Distt. Congress Committee, 1996-2011; Vice -President & President, Foot Ball Association, Himachal Pradesh during 1996 & 2005-09, respectively; Chairman, Panchayat Smiti, Pooh, 1987-92 & Vice Chairman, HP State Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribe Development Corporation, 1996-97.

    Elected to the State Legislative Assembly on 27th  May, 1995 (by-election) ; re-elected in June, 2003 & 2012; remained Parliamentary Secretary from 18th  April, 2005 to 18th  August, 2005; Chairman, Subordinate Legislation Committee from  January, 2013 to March, 2013 ; and Deputy Speaker from 12th March, 2013 to 21st December, 2017.

    Re-elected to the thirteenth Vidhan Sabha (4th term) in December, 2017; nominated as Member, Estimates and General Development Committees; and also appointed Chief Whip, Congress Legislature Party.

    Special Interest: Social work.

    Favorite Pastime: Trekking and Reading.

    Sports: An Active sportsman during college days; represented: (i) Haryana  in the National Junior Hockey Championship in Madras, 1977; (ii) DAV College, Chandigarh which was the winner of Punjab University Inter-College Hockey Championship, 1977-78.

    Languages Known: Hindi and English.

    Travels Abroad: Bangladesh.
